The verdant Pemberton Valley is a top seed-potato growing area, and the farms are part of its charm. Its most famous annual event is Slow Food Cycle Sundayin August, attracting thousands of visitors who cycle the 50K route, visiting farms and sampling locally grown food.

A number of residential projects are also appearing on the landscape. Pemberton's proximity to Whistler has made it a favoured alternative to the bustling resort, and it's just that much deeper in the mountains -- so a more secluded destination. It is the getaway from the getaway, with pristine mountain scenery to boot.

Equestrian estates complement the crops on the valley floor, but the bucolic community is dominated by a relatively large percentage of detached dwellings. Just over 49 per cent of Pemberton homes are single-family homes. Pemberton residents are a mix of socioeconomic groups -- the mayor is a prominent farmer, highlighting the down-to-earth character of the community.

Pemberton Valley Supermarket is a convenient destination for everyday staples, while Whistler is the nearest community with a critical mass of shops. Squamish ups the ante with a Walmart and Home Depot, but the main shopping is found at West Vancouver's Park Royal shopping centre.

Mile One Eating House sources local ingredients whenever possible for its expansive comfort food menu. It gets its burger buns from The Blackbird Bakery, another locovore-inspired food business. The Black Squirrel Restaurant at the Pemberton Meadows Golf Club and the Pony Espresso are also local standbys. For fine dining at the end of the day, book a table at one of Whistler's many fine restaurants.

Pemberton Valley Sports and Recreation

Golf on the broad valley floor, ski and snowmobile in the mountains or, in season, hike, ride horses or mountain bike the Pemberton area's several trails. There's also fishing in the Birkenhead River and other tributaries of the Lillooet River that flows through the Pemberton Valley. Residents also have quick and easy access to Whistler, the premier skiing and snowboarding destination for the region. The area also features several parks, including the Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park and the Nairn Falls Provincial Park.

Pemberton Valley Transportation

Highway 99, the Sea-to-Sky Highway, is the main route into Pemberton, and connects it with Whistler. There's also local bus service courtesy of Whistler Transit. Greyhound offers scheduled service to connect with Whistler, Squamish and Vancouver. Pemberton also has an airport that accommodates larger planes than those using the Whistler airport.

Why I Love This Neighbourhood
Pemberton is a small community of 2500 people; our average demographic is 33 years old. We have allot of young families which is so exciting for our village The people who make up this a Community are an amazing group of diverse, unique innovative individuals who are constantly striving to meet the demands our young emerging families needs as well as the elders. I moved my family here in 1999 because of the small town. The local agriculture has been another draw for the healthy lifestyle that is very important to my family.
